Was July 4th weird for you this year?!
I must admit, this is one of the WEIRDEST Independence Day weekends I’ve ever experienced. Even more weird than the ones when we lived overseas and no once noticed or cared that it was July 4th.
This year I have very mixed emotions around July 4th. I feel extreme pride and gratitude for our Founders, our history, and all of the countless men and women who have sacrificed their lives so that we could be free. We’ve definitely made some atrocious decisions that are totally out of alignment with our founding philosophies (ie, slavery, women’s suppression, how we continue to treat Native Americans to this day on reservations, the list is long), and we must continue to scream from the rooftops until all of these inequalities are rectified. But at the same time, I feel shock and deep sorrow over who we’ve allowed ourselves to become in modern-day America.
I’ve spent a lot of time educating myself over the past couple of years into the recent history of our Country that isn’t advertised or promoted in the media. Trying to get to the actual root of how we ended up in this place. It’s certainly not one person’s fault; not even one administration, or one party’s fault, and there is most definitely corruption and disgust on both sides of the political fence. There is manipulation so deep that we can’t even find the original source anymore.
Simply stated: it’s no one’s fault, but it’s everyone’s problem.
In spite of all that, what gets me is how the vast majority of us have become so shallow. So happily ignorant to the true state of affairs in our Nation today. Y’all, if we don’t actually do something to DRASTICALLY change our situation, there will simply be no free Country left for our children to enjoy.
And we’re not fighting an enemy on foreign soil. We’re fighting an enemy deep within. We have been slowly and surely destroying ourselves over the past few decades. And, I pray to G-D in Heaven that He will grant us mercy & strength to save ourselves from ourselves before it’s too late. I will fight with everything I have in me to help save our Nation. And, I pray with all my might that our blind consumerism will finally be replaced with active participation. And with informed leadership from each and every family who takes our beautiful country for granted every day.
It’s easy to bash, slander and destroy. It’s not so easy to build-up, clean-up, and protect.
But I refuse to believe that we are all bad, mostly bad, or even half bad. I believe that the masses of Americans are well-meaning and loyal patriots who are simply unaware and uninformed. We have been programmed by the media for the past several decades. And this has turned us into blind and naive followers that were raised to trust our leaders and our government. But somewhere along the way, we lost sight of the fact that we must remain informed and actively take part in keeping our Country great.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN SHARING A PICTURE OF THE AMERICAN FLAG FOR JULY 4TH ON FACEBOOK AND CHECKING THE CYBER BOX THAT WE’VE DONE OUR PART.
We have become a herd of 300 million+ sheep being led to slaughter.
Except on the way to the slaughter house, we stop and get into a massive fight with each other instead of working together to save the situation. And honestly, I don’t even know how to change it. Because the programming is so deeply ingrained in most people that we’re not even aware it’s become part of our DNA .
We’re so comfortable in our own lives that we can’t be bothered to go vote or take part in our local communities. We’re so caught up in social media and believing everything the television feeds us. We don’t even remember how to do research beyond a quick Google search (which of course is censored propaganda). And most importantly, we’ve become so programmed by fear that we are effectively marching ourselves into cattle cars to follow the crowd right into a new era of genocide.
We CAN still save ourselves. It’s not too late.
“United We Stand, Divided We Fall”: Is this great advice & wisdom, or is it prophecy?
You see these shoes in this picture?
I bought them as a reminder to myself. Every single morning as I lace them up and head out the front door, these shoes are a reminder to ask myself if I’m living as the change I want to see in our world. Yes, my life is crazy busy…but that’s the case for almost every person in our Country today.
Regardless of how busy we are, we must all do everything we can to become the change we want to see in our Country!
And let’s be honest: if I don’t do my part to help our Country, then what right do I have to complain about it?!
I remember quite a number of people threatening to leave the country if an election didn’t go the way they wanted a while back. What kind of teamwork is that? That’s the most pathetic and weak display of leadership I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s like a child who quits the game if they’re not winning. A leader is someone who loses and still stays in the game. (I think I heard that from John Maxwell 15 years ago.)
So, what are some things that we can do to make a difference? Well, before we even ask ourselves that question, we first have to decide that we CAN make a difference. Little ol’ me may be only able to cast one vote, but I am an absolute believer in the butterfly effect. So, if I’m gonna choose to stand loud and proud and do everything I can in service to my Country as an informed and active citizen, what would that look like?
Here is a checklist of things we could consider to take an active role in becoming the change we want to see in the world:
- Am I registered to vote?
- Will I actually go actually vote?
- Am I educating myself on the candidates? (Nationally and Locally)
- Am I contributing to my local community to help it become better?
- Am I learning to live in a sustainable way? (Ie, protecting and conserving our resources…not contributing to landfills…minimizing waste, etc.)
- Am I learning how to replace my blind consumerism with education about how I’m spending my money? (Where it goes, what the companies I support with my dollars contribute to, etc.)
- Am I learning to play an active role in my own health?
- Do I plant trees in the community and participate in trash cleanups?
- Do I encourage my friends, family, and colleagues to become more actively involved? (In a fun way…not as a nag or obnoxious social media stalker!)
- Will I believe everything I see and hear on social media and the mainstream news, or am I learning how to DIG DEEPER to find the real truth?
- Am I educating my children to become the next generation of leaders for our Nation?
- Do I consciously work to create the legacy I want to leave behind?
- Am I using every single day to make this world a better place than I found it?
I believe with all my heart that this country can be saved, especially on July 4th.
We certainly don’t have to do every single thing on this list every day. But if we focus on living our lives and showing up to the world in this capacity, I believe with all my heart that this Country could be saved. I am definitely a dreamer an idealist, and an eternal optimist. But I’m also a realist…and the reality is that if we don’t do something NOW, our freedom…TRUE FREEDOM, is not guaranteed. If I remember correctly, nowhere in the Bible is there a prophecy for the United States of America to be the world’s superpower for all of eternity!
The Nation of Kindness
Gang, it doesn’t matter to me who you vote for. This Nation has been referred to as the Nation of Kindness. And it was built on the underlying premise that we are all entitled to respectfully disagree with one another, while helping others in need. Even if we don’t agree with them.
So, what would that look like in today’s world?
Well, we would all become informed citizens. We would vote. And then, regardless of how the election goes, whether our candidate wins or not, we would still continue to participate as respectful citizens. We would support each other and this Nation that we love. Actively campaign to make sure that the items of importance to us are brought to the attention of those around us. We would use our passion to influence and build up, instead of spreading negativity and hate.
If anything at all, I hope this July 4th is rock bottom for our Country. I hope this is the year that serves as the springboard into a new era of responsibility and service. I will try my best to do my part, and I know you will to. We may not agree on what that looks like…and that’s OK.
Wishing you a safe and happy long July 4th weekend as we all contemplate how we can raise the bar for ourselves and our Country!
